[ID:0720]The Department of Global Affairs handles the responsibilities of foreign affairs, international trade and international development. Within this department, there is a Minister of Foreign Affairs, a Minister of International Trade and a Minister of International Development and La Francophonie who are responsible for the department's policy and operations. Throughout its history, Global Affairs has been known as the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and, originally, the Department of External Affairs or simply "External". Since November 2015, it has been referred to as Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
GAC manages Canada's diplomatic and consular relations, encourages international trade and supports Canada's international development work abroad.
