Below is a collection of comments from teachers who have worked in Africa. Their advice should help you get off to a good start in your new job.
“To have a truly full experience, you must be ‘captured’ by the culture.”
“Stand back and listen for at least the first month and even up to one year. As a new teacher, you are usually very welcome. They are happy to have you. In the initial excitement, a new teacher will have lots of ideas, and will be eager to present them, but….You should take the time to see if your ideas are appropriate. You must get to know your students first. Find out what their needs are, how they learn best, what works for them.”
