Law Students: Choosing Your School

[ID:0605]In law the name of your school matters. If you want an international career, you are much better off going to a law school that has instant name recognition. And this, of course, will depend heavily on your marks and ability to fund the program. Yale Law School graduates have an almost 100% success rate in passing state bars and finding employment after graduation. If you aren't interested in corporate law, the choice of your law school doesn't matter as much, but don't underestimate the importance that people continue to attach to the international reputation of your school. Note that in Canada, the issue of name recognition limits your options, as only McGill University is instantly recognized throughout the world. The world's premier law firms in New York have been recruiting McGill students for years and only a small number of the elite firms have recently begun to include the University of Toronto and York University's Osgoode Hall in the recruitment trips they carry out every fall.
