Listen up, Canadians: On June 13th, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the launch of an exciting new scholarship program specifically geared towards promoting international experiences for students!

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships program, which is an initiative honouring the Queen's 60 years of service to Canada, will grant scholarships for undergraduate- and graduate-level students to travel to developing Commonwealth nations and undertake internships or academic study.

Starting in 2015, scholarships will be granted for periods of four months to one year, with the aim of promoting global citizenship and providing opportunities for Canadian students to have enriching professional and cross-cultural experiences. Up to 1,500 individual scholarships are scheduled to be provided, both for Canadians heading abroad to developing nations, and to students from other Commonwealth countries coming to Canada. The program has allotted $40 million for the project, which will be funded by a number of government bodies, institutions and private sector contributors.

The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Scholarships program is a legacy project, scheduled to last five years. If you're a Canadian student with the motivation and drive to build international experience, we highly recommend checking out this extraordinary initiative, which promises to "nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs, public servants, community leaders and academics in the Commonwealth by enabling promising youth to build and share their skills, knowledge and experience."
