Tara was driven to volunteer in Bolivia by a desire to see the world, and a passion for helping others. While there, she learned about her host culture, but also built valuable career experience and learned a whole lot about effective cross-cultural communication. Heather spent a full academic year on exchange at the Tec de Monterrey campus in Guadalajara, with the goals of improving her Spanish and immersing herself in Mexican culture. Not only did she achieve these goals, she also earned course credit and volunteered with community groups to gain even more insight into the colorful local culture.

Lindsey spent a month volunteering in Belize. Not only was she able to get a sense of educational culture in the country, but she also saw the domestic sde of Belizean culture by choosing to live with a host family during her stay.

Non-profit organization United Planet is hosting a photo and video contest. Submissions are due by August 21st, so if you're just heading abroad for your summer adventure, keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready!

According to the guidelines, all entries "should aim to illustrate the ideas of cross-cultural understanding, friendship and supporting one another" at home or abroad.
